We are a non-profit service organization with an ongoing program for the collection and distribution of personal hygiene kits to the homeless and working poor.
Summer is an especially tough time for nonprofits like Shoebox Ministry. Demand is high and supplies are low. As businesses and families enter summer-mode, donations to nonprofits slow down. Over the summer months there won’t be school drives for personal hygiene items. Businesses also slow down their charitable work as employees head out on vacations. Is there a way to enjoy summer AND help Shoebox? Yes! Here are some ideas to get you started.
Kids are home and looking for something to do. Talk to your kids about ways they can make a difference in your community this summer. A summer toiletry drive is a great idea. Kids can tap into their social networks and use social media for good. Setting up a drive is simple, free, fun and most importantly, gets much-needed toiletry items for local families in need.
Collect donations at your next family, church or business event. Is your business holding a summer picnic? Are you planning a graduation, birthday party or just fun get together? Church having Vacation Bible School? Ask each attendees to bring a bottle of shampoo, toothpaste or other hygiene item(s) to your event? Set up a table to drop off and showcase the items you’ve collected.
Make a difference as a family. Family time is important to many over the summer months. What better way to motivate and bond a family than to work together for a greater good. Don’t forget to collect those free hotel toiletries on your vacation to pass along to a family in need.
